Duplex designs are supported by all SDA categories however they are particularly good for Robust homes.
A little about Robust homes
Resilient and sturdy built to accommodate and support people with complex needs.
A priority of this design is to keep residents and carers safe. High impact wall lining, fittings and fixtures, secure windows, doors and external areas, laminated glass and soundproofing, and spaces for residents or carers to retreat, are all features that can be included to help create a safe, accessible and manageable home.
Sensory or quiet spaces are possible because they can help residents feel calm and at home. Shared and private spaces for residents to either socialise or have time alone. Durable but inconspicuous materials are used to the home fit in with the surrounding neighbourhood and are strong enough not to require constant maintenance.
Two homes under one roof
Duplex designs are supported by all SDA categories, however, they are particularly good for Robust homes where the costs of construction can be shared between two dwellings.
Here you can see a duplex design in the Robust category, featuring two single-level homes under one roof. The duplex design allows for private access for residents, with common Onsite Overnight Assistance (OOA).
These homes feature modern fixtures with customisations, like high impacts walls and secure windows, to comply with the Robust design standard.
